Volunteer Spotlight: Carling Leon, Thesis

CARLING LEON, SENIOR ENGAGEMENT MANAGER OF THESIS, IS A B CORP ADVOCATE AND B LOCAL PDX VOLUNTEER. WE INTERVIEWED HER RECENTLY ON COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND HIRING FOR B CORPS.

1. What makes you so passionate about working for a B Corp and being around others in the B Corp community?

Working for a B Corp means you are using business as a force for good.  I align with the passion, consideration, and impact that comes with balancing profit and purpose.  The B Corp community is supportive and innovative.  I am continuously learning from this network, while also inspired by their ethical, sustainable approaches to business.

2. As a recruiter for a B Corp company, do you get much interest and awareness about B Corps from potential employees in interviews?

Absolutely!  Almost every candidate we interact with is aware of Thesis’ B Corp standing.  Many of them share that our agency aligns with their personal values — which is becoming increasingly important to today’s job seekers.  Living in our B Corp principles has been a powerful way for Thesis to retain and attract employees.  It’s a win-win!

3. What are some of your favorite activities and events that you and other employees engage in the B Corp community here in Portland and beyond?

One of my favorite activities was helping plan this year’s B Local PDX Day of Service.  It was such a memorable day volunteering alongside other B Corp supporters.  Over 150 volunteers delivered 450+ hours of volunteer service to 14 nonprofit organizations in Portland!  I also attend B Local PDX Learning Lunches.  The topics are timely and provide helpful resources to help navigate current issues.  I thoroughly enjoy the opportunity to learn from leaders in the B Corp community.

4. What's your advice to a co-worker or a professional outside of the company on why they should get involved in Portland's B Corp community?

Whether you are exploring the B Corp community for the first time or you have been a supporter for a while now, don’t hesitate to get involved!  The networking and best practice sharing is unmatched.  It is an inspiring, vibrant community of changemakers who are all using business as a force for good.
